Yup. It's a sad story that I see all too often. The thing that always blows me away is that people don't seem to understand what really happens when the big box stores move in to town. The even vie to have them in their towns!

Actually, the move NEAR to town, thus allowing them to build what ever monstrosity the want and guaranteeing that business will evaporate from the city center. Ugh. And picturesque downtowns are traded for the 12¢ you save when you buy the gallon of french onion dip at the Mall-Wart.

Now that I've depressed my self thinking about Mall-Wart, I'll go use my "bad-mood countermeasure". It's a beautiful day out this sunday... I'm going out side to play with my kids all day long! WoooHooo! :-)

Later this evening... it'll be Dark N' Stormy time. I'll get the lime out now!

You're lucky to have such a great store in your town! It makes me envious, as I live in one of the "ghost towns" you mentioned above.

When I moved here in 1994, I lived on the main street of town and had plenty of places to walk and shop and hardly needed a car for daily living. In 1996 they built a Wal Mart ten miles west and businesses started to close down. In 1999 they built another one ten miles east of here.

Now there are more "for rent" signs than operating stores. Sigh.
